Jan Champney - the Word Service

Employer engagement

Whether called vocational, work related learning or employer engagement, the need to encourage schools and industry to work together has never been more important.

The message from employers is clear - young people need a balance of academic and vocational skills when they enter the world of work.

Jan has helped schools and colleges to identify how they can work to esablish education/employer partnerships of all sizes.

She can help at the implementation stages by advising on creating shared protocols and policies and identifying the objectives for the school and employers.
At delivery, she advises on how to maximise the opportunities arising from the National Curriculum, off timetable events and out of school activities.
She has worked with schools across England including inner city, rural and those within the Olympic park area.

Clients she has worked with include:
  • Hugh Baird College, Liverpool
  • Canterbury College
  • Eastleigh College
  • Farnham College
  • East Hampshire Consortium

Collaboration

Federation, network, partnership, collaboration. While educational organisations who agree to work together may call themselves different things, ultimately the benefit fot young people, the community, employers and partner colleagues is understood. Working together makes economic sense - in terms by reducing money and time.

Working in partnership is not a new idea but creating a successful and effective model takes time and is difficult to achieve;
Establishing trust, shared values, common funding and resources takes time and until recently local authorities provided staff to assist the process.
With cost cutting, many of these post holders are facing redundancy.

Across the country there are excellent examples of true collaboration that include partners representing commercial, community and education. Jan has worked with many of them and can bring her experience to your school, college or partnership.

If your business wants to get involved with your local school or college, please contact her for advice.
